Returning to Finland

Colourful Stories workshop October 2018

by World Traveller

It is six o’clock in the morning and I am on my way to Finland for the second time this year. The loudspeaker is asking everybody going to Helsinki to go to gate 32. As I am walking there, I feel something is different. The passengers are talking and not looking at their phones today. There is a buzz in the air and happy, smiling faces.

I stop, astonished. Where are all those sour faces I have become so accustomed to in the past years? Then we get on the plane and nobody asks for wine. I have to pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming. It cannot be true. Usually the plane smells of alcohol, fairly reeks of it. And arriving in the Helsinki airport, I am greeted by a friendly policeman who tells me welcome to Finland and I hope you have a nice stay. I have to pinch myself again, and this time I wake up.
