Writing in different languages is not easy and arranging a writer meeting in several languages is a big challenge. With English and Swedish as working languages writers met at Norden – Nordic Culture Point in Helsinki on 19 October 2016, to write together and discuss texts and ideas with PhD Sabira Ståhlberg, Creative Writing teacher and probably Finland’s most multilingual author.
New texts were born during the seminar and maybe also seeds were planted for new books. The participants discussed among others how you can utilise and enrich your writing through the usage of different languages, how texts change according to choice of language, how you can write in several languages, how to deal with writer’s block, cultural differences and similarities and what is important to consider when translating texts. Colorit’s mentor programme for immigrant authors was also discussed and different opinions about the needs and the future development of the activities were gathered.
The seminar was organised by Colorit ry.rf. and Norden – Nordic Culture Point in cooperation with Nylands Litteraturförening rf. and Lecti Culture Centre, and supported by The Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland.
